Pygmy Blue “Invasion”

This past week Colin Croft notified me that on October 18 he had photographed a Pygmy Blue in Morrill County. These diminutive blues are often abundant in the American southwest but only occasionally stray into Nebraska where they are probably overlooked due to their small size. On a whim I searched iNaturalist for more possible records and found another had been photographed in Platte County two days earlier (Oct 16) by Nicole Trautman. This butterfly has now been found in eight counties in the last 125 years – two in the last week!! And I had thought the season was over.
