Back in the early 1970s The Wedge Entomological Research Foundation was formed and undertook an ambitious project to document/illustrate all the moth species found in North America in a series of publications (fascicles). These publications became known as MONA (Moths of North America) fascicles. As expert authors needed to be found (and specimens gathered to photograph) for each these fascicles, the publication process was/is slow and the resulting fascicles expensive. To date roughly 35 fascicles have been published covering roughly a third of North America’s moth species. While this is a 50+year work in progress the work done to date is top notch, illustrating all species, not just the most common ones. Anyone doing moth research for an extended period of time has encountered individuals not found in popular literature. They would likely be found in these fascicles.
Recently; to further the study of Lepidoptera, the foundation has decided to make these fascicles available as free PDF downloads. This is an excellent opportunity to access top notch research in the comfort of your home/office at no cost. I would encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
