Erinnyis obscura (Fabricius, 1775)

Family: Sphingidae

Status: Rare stray.

Larval Hostplant(s):  Papaya and other plants in the Caraciceae family as well as plants in the dogbane (Apocynaceae) and spurge  (Euphorbiaceae) families. 

Range: A tropical species breeding as far north as the southern tier of states in the US, straying north from there.

Broods/Flight Times: One to multiple broods depending on latitude. Late summer in Nebraska.

Overwintering: As pupa in the soil.
