Status: Rare stray from south, possibly breeding

Range: Resident along the Gulf Coast, from there straying north as far as New York. The only Nebraska record is from Lancaster County.
Larval Hostplant(s): Various cultivated plants in the canna family (Marantaceae).
Broods/Flight Times: Year round in the tropics.
Overwintering: Not in this area.
Habitat: As a stray it could occur anywhere.
Avg. Wingspan: 1 3/4 – 2 3/8 inches

Similar Species:
Notes: One larvae was found on a canna plant in August of 1992 in Lincoln by Emily Rieur. It is not known if the larva originated from greenhouse nursery stock brought into the state or from a female who strayed into the state and found a canna to lay an egg on.
