Range: The Northern Broken-Dash is found from the eastern Dakotas and eastern Texas to the east coast. In Nebraska it is found in the southeastern half of the state with additional records from along the Niobrara River and the Pine Ridge.
Larval Hostplant(s): Panic Grasses (Panicum sp).
Broods/Flight Times: A single early July brood northward with a possible partial second in the southern parts of the state. We have records from June 26 to August 11.
Overwintering: As partially grown larvae.
Habitat: Most often found near woodland margins, often on moister areas of floodplains.
Avg. Wingspan: 1 – 1 1/2 inches
Found at: Niobrara Valley Preserve, Gilbert-Baker SWMA, Fontenelle Forest, Indian Cave SP
Similar Species: Little Glassywings and Dun Skippers, both of which it has been found with it.
Notes: Upon close examination the stigma (or “dash”) on the male is slightly separated (or broken), hence the name Broken Dash
