Range: This butterfly is found in the southeastern quarter of the United States, as far north as southern portions of New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and much of Missouri. In Nebraska it is reported from Nemaha and Otoe Counties.
Larval Hostplant(s): Sumacs and Oaks.
Broods/Flight Times: Three broods, April to October in Missouri (Heitzman & Heitzman 1987)
Overwintering: Reports of both late stage larvae and pupae.
Habitat: Woodland borders and openings.
Avg. Wingspan: 7/8 – 1 1/4 inches
